Multibeam with Total Hydrographic

Total Hydrographic’s highly skilled staff have the capabilities to monitor and map your Marina to the highest hydrographic standards. We own and operate a Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) which provides an efficient and wide coverage survey solution, ideal for Marina mapping. This system can be mounted to a number of our vessels to provide a rapidly mobilised and highly accurate survey system. Our MBES system can conduct surveys that are fully compliant with the International Hydrographic Organization’s (IHO) Special Order standard. This is the most stringent of all the IHO’s classifications of survey and requires that the entire sea floor to be searched and that small features can be detected. Special Order surveys are crucial when under keel clearance and safety of navigation is critical. We can provide feature detection for navigational safety, where traditional single beam solutions cannot. These navigational hazards may be submerged within your marina or right in the middle of your entrance channel and can lay undetected without the appropriate survey system to locate them.

Coverage without compromise

Our survey system has a swath width of 6 times the water’s depth as well as beam steering capabilities. This means in 10 meters of water we can scan with a swath of 60m allowing for detailed coverage under wharf structures and moored vessels. Without disturbing residents, we can quickly capture data over hard to reach places including:

  • Berth pockets
  • Underneath jetty structures
  • Under vessels
  • Rockwalls and Groynes

How can we help you monitor your Marina?

Regular and routine monitoring through high precision and resolution MBES data can provide valuable information including:

  • 3D model of marina with identified features and navigational hazards
  • Monitor changes with sediment heatmaps and cross-sectional diagrams
  • Rock wall monitoring with cross sections against engineering design specifications
  • Channel designs for dredging with calculated material volumes to be removed.
  • Habitat mapping with MBES + backscatter imagery

Will this information make sense and how will you receive it?

Our hydrographic specialists will speak with you prior to undertaking your project to ascertain what information you need and how you’re going to use it. You will receive the information in a format that suits you. Our services do not end after data capture, meaning that if you need help working with the data afterwards, we will be there to guide you. Our datasets can be presented or delivered as required:

  • 3D TIN surface
  • XYZ soundings
  • Navigational Chart
  • PDF survey plans
  • 3D Flythrough
  • Overlaid onto web services such as Google Earth

The following images show an example Marina survey workflow.

Integration with Other Data:

Our multibeam survey can be seamlessly integrated with the other services that we offer including:

  • Mobile Laser Systems (MLS)
  • Side scan Sonar
  • Drop Camera Inspections
  • Topographic Surveys
  • Beach Profiles
  • Drone photogrammetry
  • MS1000 underwater inspection surveys

By melding above water data with the below water bathymetry, you can be assured to receive the most complete 3D representation of your asset. During your first obligation free consult with our experts you will be guided on what we believe will be the most beneficial, cost effective and streamlined approach to gaining the information you need. No two Marinas are the same and we will work with you to create the best survey package to suit you.

Don’t just take it from us, here’s what our clients have to say:

We recently contracted Total Hydrographic to conduct a multibeam survey of our marina after they were recommended to us. We found them to be timely and informative and the information and data that they delivered was more detailed than expected. Personally, this was fantastic for someone not familiar with this particular field.
